11th International Workshop In Group Analytic Psychotherapy

Group analytic exploration
(in small and large group)
of the processes of passage
In psychology, ‘boundary testing’ or examining ‘how far we can go’ has a sense of something infantile and potentially pathological. However, there are situations in which ‘boundaries’ are so firm they are hard to pass even in necessity, and in which ‘how far we can go’ is a rather existential question. Such is the position of refugees. With a cynical reversal, we could still say it is about ‘boundary testing’, only here as an examination whether they are firm enough to prevent us from passing. Does not the modern society continue to be a society of borders, even walls between people? Do we not experience them whenever our admission to a country, a home, a community, but also to a school, a society, a circle of the initiated... or expulsion from the same are at play? What do group analytic experiences tell us about the processes of admission and expulsion – or, more generally, about the processes of passage – in everyday life?
